
Thermal - O&M Technician I
Principal Responsibilities
Job Summary:

Monitor and control the operation of all plant machinery and equipment

Monitor and be responsible for the effect on plant operations of all activities occurring in the plant and on the distribution system, e.g. visitors, repairs, construction, etc.

Take readings, maintain logbooks as required, create reports and accumulate other information as necessary for production reports and recordkeeping

Perform scheduled and unscheduled job assignments
Knowledge and Skills

Ability to not only learn complex systems and work under direction, but also to react to emergencies using judgment and intuitive skills

Computer proficiency required in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook

Knowledgeable and experienced with boiler digital and pneumatic controls

Ability to work in hot and cold locations, the ability to work on ladders, to lift up to 75 lbs, and to work standing for several consecutive hours

Ability to work overtime as needed
The O&M Tech is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all plant equipment in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Lead Operator and Plant Manager. The Operator directs the Maintenance Mechanic on duty, who assists with starting and stopping plant machinery and equipment. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the O&M Tech exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in plant operation
Basic Qualifications

High school Diploma/GED or Equivalent

Minimum of two years of experience operating water tube steam boilers (100 psig or greater)

Respond to unusual conditions, fire alarms, smoke alarms, power interruptions, utility issues, etc.

Operate – start, run, maintain, and stop – plant machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including but not limited to: Boilers, Chillers, Steam Turbine-Generator Gas Turbine-Generator, pumps, valves, etc.

Monitor and record plant operating parameters

Monitor and record customers’ consumption levels and demands

Perform tests of operating equipment

Monitor water chemistry in the various plant water systems, and adjust chemical feed systems as required

Be responsible for the Facility’s appearance and housekeeping

Have or work to obtain knowledge and/or skill sets held by Maintenance Mechanics

Required to learn and comply with company policies and procedures with respect to Safety and Environmental

Required to participate and/or conduct safety and environmental topics discussions and/or training
Preferred Qualifications

Chilled water system operating experience is preferred

NIULPE Class III Operator’s license.

Universal Refrigeration License or pathway to obtain
